APM Monaco in February

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated annually on February 14th, meant to commemorate love. The origins of this holiday can be traced back to ancient Rome, where a festival called Lupercalia was held in mid-February to celebrate fertility and the coming of spring. However, the modern celebration of Valentine's Day has evolved in many ways.

While Valentine's Day first became popular in the United States in the early 1700s, it wasn't until the mid-19th century that the holiday gained widespread appeal. Interestingly enough, this adoption was largely thanks to the efforts of various greeting card companies. These companies saw Valentine's Day as an opportunity to increase sales while spreading love and harkening to an ancient practice.

Now, thanks to other cultural touchstones such as film, gifts such as jewelry, roses, chordates, and more are synonymous with Cupid’s day. The tradition of giving jewelry as a token of love and affection on Valentine's Day, however, dates to the early days of the Roman Empire. During these ancient days, lovers exchanged gifts of gold and silver. Of course, this is similar to how modern lovers exchange jewelry made of silver and gold. In addition to these famous materials, most modern jewelry — exchanged on Valentine’s Day or other occasions — feature diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and other precious gems. Now, thanks to the advent of new technology as well as the commitment of social and climate activists, many jewelry products feature lab-grown sustainable alternatives to these precious gems such as cubic zirconia.

Whether it's exchanging gifts of jewelry, writing love letters, or simply spending time together, Valentine's Day is a celebration of the love and affection that exist between two people.
