Moldova Launches €8.5M Program to Strengthen Climate-Resilient Farming

A major push for sustainable agriculture

A new €8.5 million program has been launched in Moldova to support sustainable food systems and strengthen the resilience of the country’s agriculture sector. The initiative, co-financed by the European Union and the Czech Republic, will run for four years and aims to help farmers adapt to climate change while boosting rural development.

Modern practices for a stronger agri-food system

The project will introduce modern European farming solutions and proven practices to reduce vulnerabilities in Moldova’s agri-food sector. These include soil laboratory testing, safe use of biocides, and the creation of a digital Organic Agricultural Register. Business development support and institutional capacity-building will also play a key role, alongside knowledge sharing and international cooperation.

Supporting farmers for long-term resilience

According to Adam Grodzicki, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Moldova, the program reflects the EU’s commitment to helping local farmers and agri-businesses become more competitive and resilient. “This initiative will allow Moldovan producers to adapt to climate change, adopt sustainable practices, access new markets, and prepare for integration into the EU single market,” he emphasized.

Strong international cooperation

The project, named Sustainable Food Systems, is jointly financed by the European Union and the Czech Republic and implemented by the Czech Development Agency, Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, and the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre. Its official launch gathered more than 40 representatives from national and international organizations, underscoring the broad support and high expectations for its impact.

Building the future of Moldovan agriculture

By combining innovation, sustainability, and international expertise, the €8.5 million initiative sets the foundation for a more competitive, climate-resilient, and future-ready agri-food sector in Moldova. Over the next four years, the program is expected to not only improve farming practices but also empower rural communities to thrive in a changing environment.
