Anglian Water Launches £47M Framework for Hydrology and Ecology Services Ahead of Major Infrastructure Push

Anglian Water Announces £47M Tender Framework for Hydrology and Ecology Services
Anglian Water has launched a major procurement process to secure a long-term, multi-supplier framework worth up to £47 million, aimed at delivering vital ecological and hydrological surveys and assessments across its operational area. The framework—set to begin in March 2026—is designed to support capital delivery programmes, regulatory environmental compliance, and emerging biodiversity targets under the UK’s Environment Act 2021.
15-Year Vision to Support Environmental and Infrastructure Projects
The agreement will run for an initial five years, with the potential for two five-year extensions, giving the framework a possible 15-year lifespan through to 2041.It will play a key role in delivering on projects tied to the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) commitments, and broader environmental ambitions across the East of England and Hartlepool.
Two Core Lots, Tailored to Project Scale
The framework is divided into two specialist lots: Lot 1: Ecology Surveys and Assessments Lot 2: Hydrology Surveys and AssessmentsEach lot includes two delivery pathways: Pathway A: Focused on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and complex schemes requiring higher assurance, including collateral warranties and enhanced insurance. Pathway B: Designed for regional or lower-complexity projects, offering greater flexibility and broader supplier access.
Scope of Services
Lot 1 (Ecology) will include: Baseline ecological surveys Protected species assessments Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) metric calculations Post-construction ecological monitoring Compliance with UK legislation and planning requirementsLot 2 (Hydrology) will cover: River flow measurement Groundwater monitoring Flood risk and impact assessments Support for drought plan monitoring and sustainable water resource planning
Future-Ready and Adaptive
The framework is designed with flexibility in mind. Anglian Water has the right to expand the scope in response to: Environmental policy changes Technological innovation (e.g., remote sensing and AI) New capital delivery programmesThis dynamic approach aims to future-proof the utility’s ability to manage climate resilience, water scarcity, and nature-based solutions in evolving regulatory contexts.
Strategic Alignment with Net Zero and Resilience Goals
Anglian Water’s environmental strategy focuses on decarbonisation, nature recovery, and smart infrastructure—making this framework a cornerstone of how the utility delivers compliance, sustainability, and community resilience at scale. The services will be key to informing project planning, obtaining permits, and ensuring regulatory alignment across a region critical to UK water security.
